Mental Health Awareness – 1 day
What's Included
The aim of this course is to provide learners with knowledge of their roles and responsibilities regarding Mental Health Awareness.

First Aid for Mental Health Level 2 (RQF) - 1 day
What's Included
One-day FAMH Course – this is the most comprehensive training and the ONLY one which qualifies you for First Aid for Mental Health.
On this course, you will increase your knowledge of a variety of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and schizophrenia. You will learn some practical tools for supporting friends, family and co-workers. As a mental health first aider, you will feel confident as a first responder in crisis situations and know how to guide someone towards appropriate support. You will receive a certificate on completion which does not have an expiry date.
First Aid for Mental Health is not unlike physical first aid: help offered for someone suffering from ill health, in this case, mental ill health. FAMH courses will also teach you to spot earlier signs and symptoms of common mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, etc. With the knowledge and tools learned in the course, individuals will be able to deliver first aid for mental health before professional medical treatment is available. The aims of mental health first aid are to:
- Preserve life
- Prevent further harm
- Promote recovery
- Provide comfort to the person who suffers
Please note that as someone qualified in First Aid for Mental Health, or someone who has undertaken a First Aid for Mental Health course, you will not be able to diagnose or treat, but you can identify symptoms of anxiety, depression, and eating disorders, amongst other challenges, and encourage someone to seek professional help. These courses do not teach you to be a counsellor or therapist, but will empower you to react and signpost when someone in mental distress may need professional help.

Safeguarding Children

This course is fully compliant with the Care Certificate Standard 11 for Health Care Workers and equips you and your team with to properly safeguard children.
Course Summary Level 1:
This course was developed for delivery at Level 1 in line with the competency requirements as set out in “Safeguarding Children and Young people: roles and competencies of health care staff.” (Intercollegiate Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health 2014) and therefore is fully compliant with Care Certificate Standard 11 for Health Care Workers.
- Child maltreatment in its different forms (physical including Fabricated and induced illness, emotional and sexual abuse, and neglect) including child trafficking, FGM and radicalisation including prevalence and impact.
- The relevance of parental, family and carer factors such as domestic abuse, mental and physical ill-health, and substance and alcohol misuse.
- What to do if there are concerns about child maltreatment, including local policies and procedures around who to contact, where to obtain further advice and support, and awareness of the referral process.
- The importance of sharing information (including the consequences of failing to do so)
- What to do if concerns are not being taken seriously or any other barriers to referring a child/family.
- Risks associated with the internet and online social networking.
- What the term ‘Looked after child’ means?
- Ability to recognise possible signs of child maltreatment relating to the healthcare worker’s role
- Ability to seek appropriate advice and report concerns, and feel confident that concerns have been listened to.
